The Ambient Air temperature sensors are wall mounted and are used to detect High Energy Line Breaks, Main Steam Line Breaks and other steam leak detection applications.  These sensors are also used to measure the ambient air in various locations to determine sudden or unacceptable temperature rise.  Sensors have been environmentally and seismically qualified for use in 1E applications in nuclear power generating stations.  The material selection and configuration of this unique sensor ensures longer installed life at elevated temperatures providing lower cost of ownership.

These sensors can be ordered as non-safety related, offering the same reliability and construction as the safety related version but at a much lower cost.

The sensors are supplied in accordance with a Quality Assurance Program which is ISO 9001:2000 Registered and is also in compliance with 10CFR50 Appendix B, ANSI N45.2 and ASME NQA-1.

Application assistance is available for special applications and design requirements.  Assistance includes physical configuration requirements such as leadwire length, quick disconnects and other physical details. Actual installation details can affect measurement accuracy and response time.  For the best performance consult factory for application assistance.

Performance Specifications

Operating Temperature Range
RTD is 0°F to 500°F (-18°C to 260°C).
Thermocouple varies according to type.
Accuracy/Calibration
Standard RTD sensor accuracy meets IEC 751/60751 Class B. Consult factory if Class A or other special accuracy requirements are needed.
Standard thermocouple accuracy meets
ANSI MC96.1-1982
Drift/Stability
RTD Sensor drift is less than 1°F (0.56°C) over 40 years
Insulation Resistance
At room temperature and dry external surfaces, the insulation resistance between any terminal and the sensor case will exceed 100 Megohms with 100 VDC applied
Operating Current
A continuous current of no greater than 20 milliamp (RMS) will not damage the RTD sensor. Standard operating current is 1 to 4 milliamps
Environmental/Seismic Qualification
(Applicable Qualification/Test reports are available upon request)
Sensors are qualified to IEEE-323 1974 & 1983, and IEEE-344 1975 & 1987 and NUREG 0588 for a design life of 40 years. The sensor assembly will withstand up to 300 Megarads T.I.D. and LOCA conditions. Seismic capability of the sensor is 20g maximum acceleration in the horizontal and vertical plane from 1 to 33 Hz
