The thermowell mount temperature sensor is designed with spring loading for mounting into thermowells or protection tubes. The design makes the sensors available for a wide range of applications.. Sensors have been environmentally and seismically qualified for use in 1E applications in nuclear power generating stations.
The material selection and configuration of this unique sensor ensures longer installed life at elevated temperatures providing lower cost of ownership.
If an application has a response time requirement, the response time will be verified by a plunge test in accordance with ASTM E644.
The sensors are supplied in accordance with a Quality Assurance Program which is ISO 9001:2000 Registered. The program is also in compliance with 10CFR50 Appendix B, ANSI N45.2 and ASME NQA-1.
These sensors can be ordered as non-safety related, offering the same reliability and construction as the safety related version but at much lower cost.
Application assistance is available for special applications and design requirements. Assistance includes physical configuration requirements such as connection head types, leadwire length, connector, and other physical details. Such things as sensor fit into the thermowell, thermowell design and assembly spring compression may cause variations in accuracy and/or response time. For the best performance consult factory for application assistance.

Operating Temperature Range
RTD is 0°F to 750°F (-18°C to 400°C)
Thermocouple varies according to type
Accuracy/Calibration
Standard RTD sensor accuracy follow normal IEC 60751 Class B. Consult factory if Class A or other special accuracy requirements are needed. Sensor specific calculated calibration tables of resistance versus temperature. The specific calibration table can be used to obtain sensor accuracies of ±0.3°F (±0.17°C).
Standard thermocouple accuracy meets
ANSI MC96.1-1982. |
Drift/Stability
RTD Sensor drift is less than 1°F (0.56°C) over 40 years
Insulation Resistance
At room temperature and dry external surfaces, the insulation resistance between any terminal and the sensor case will exceed 100 Megohms with 100 VDC applied
Operating Current
A continuous current of no greater than 20 milliamp (RMS) will not damage the RTD sensor. Standard operating current is 1 to 4 milliamps
Self Heating
In 68°F (20°C) water flowing transverse to the sensor sheath at 3 feet per second, an RTD with a sheath diameter of 0.25 inch is capable of dissipating a minimum of 50mW without causing an indicated temperature rise of more than 1.8°F (1°C).

Environmental/Seismic Qualification
(Applicable Qualification/Test reports are available upon request)
Sensors are qualified to IEEE-323 1974 & 1983, and IEEE-344 1975 & 1987 and NUREG 0588 for a design life of 40 years. The assembly will withstand up to 300 Megarads T.I.D. and LOCA conditions. Seismic capability of the sensor is 20g maximum acceleration in the horizontal and vertical plane from 1 to 33 Hz.
